Date Nights always seem to be more fun when we take the kids along. I’ve also noticed, sometimes Amanda doesn’t go on some of these date nights anymore…

A lot of Laser Tag Arenas are commonly found in “Family Fun Center” type of venues. They’re not bad, per se, but they often contain garish lighting, neon/LED uniforms and lots of flashing lights. Most importantly, the stakes feel very low. When you get shot, you often just blink for a few seconds and can shoot again. Meaning you spend most of the match just standing around and blasting all the little kids that are running all over the place. Lois and I found this realistic laser tag arena (LazerX Arena) that takes place in a gigantic warehouse that they’ve made look like a level of Call of Duty. The guns are realistic (and actually quite heavy), and give a little “kick” when you pull the trigger. There are no lights, and sneaking around and using cover is a viable strategy. When you get shot, you have to “respawn” at the base, meaning if you get shot a lot, you are doing a LOT of running. Sometimes there is even a second level to “take the high ground.” They have game modes like King of the Hill and Sniper, and it really is a lot of fun. The problem was that when I went, it was clearly all adults…and though Lois had a lot of fun…she also just got shot a lot. I’m hoping to go back sometime with a bunch of kids, so that things are more fair. Of course, I’ll probably still just stand around and spawn camp the little kids.
